Front-Of-House

Current Vacancy - Immediate start

Become a Reception team member at one of Queenstown's favourite Hostels!

You’ll be one of the first faces our guests see, helping with check-ins, reservations, questions about Queenstown and the general day-to-day running of the hostel.

Local knowledge is a big part of the role, and our Front-of-House team also gets the chance to experience selected Queenstown activities so you can give guests genuine recommendations based on first-hand experience.

These roles are typically full-time and suit someone who enjoys working with people, keeping things organised and being part of a busy hostel environment.

Think you’d be a good fit?  Find out more about the role and submit your Front-of-House application below.

Back-Of-House

Current Vacancy - Immediate start

Secure a Work-for-Accommodation (WFA) role on our Housekeeping & Night Audit team!

You’ll be helping keep the hostel running smoothly behind the scenes, with a mix of housekeeping and night audit responsibilities available.

Because this is a live-in role using our staff accommodation, it can be a particularly good fit if you’re looking to get established in Queenstown without needing to sort work and accommodation separately.

The role is approximately 15 hours per week, so it may also suit someone who wants regular part-time work while still having plenty of time to enjoy Queenstown.

Think this could suit you? Find out more about the role and submit your Housekeeping & Night Audit application below.

Why Work at Absoloot Hostel QT?

Work in the heart of Queenstown

Work right in central Queenstown, on the shores of Lake Whakatipu.

You’ll be based amongst the shops, cafés, bars and everything else happening around town - with the lake, mountains and Queenstown adventures right on your doorstep.

Make the most of Queenstown year-round

Queenstown isn’t just a great place to visit - it’s a pretty good place to call home for a while too.

From skiing and snowboarding in winter to hiking, biking and lake days through the warmer months, there’s always something to get out and do when you’re off the clock.

Social vibes without the party chaos

Work in a social hostel environment without the full-on party-hostel vibe.  Connection without chaos.

You’ll get to know both staff and guests, meet people from around the world and be part of a friendly team - while still working in a relaxed, professional environment.

We care about the staff experience too

Looking after guests starts with having a team that enjoys where they work.

We want our staff to build genuine local knowledge, enjoy their time in Queenstown and feel confident sharing recommendations from real experience - not just reading from a sales script.

Work in a well-run hostel

You’ll be working in an established hostel with systems, facilities and a team structure already in place.

That means you can focus on doing your job well, helping guests and getting to know Queenstown - rather than constantly dealing with unnecessary chaos behind the scenes.

Work with people who get travel

Absoloot is locally owned and operated by people who understand travel because we’ve done plenty of it ourselves.

That experience shapes how we look after our guests, how we run the hostel and the kind of team we want to build - practical, friendly and genuinely interested in helping people enjoy Queenstown.

Work somewhere that cares about its impact

We’re conscious of the impact tourism can have on the places people come here to enjoy.

That’s why we keep looking for practical ways to reduce our footprint while still giving guests a great experience - and we want our team to be part of that too.

Working at Absoloot — Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer staff accommodation?

Yes - our Back-of-House Work-for-Accommodation roles are live-in positions using our staff accommodation.

That can make things a lot easier if you’re arriving in Queenstown and want to get work and accommodation sorted at the same time.  Check the current Back-of-House role details above for what’s available.

Can I apply if I’m on a Working Holiday Visa?

Yes.  We regularly hear from people on Working Holiday Visas, and you’re welcome to apply as long as you have a valid visa that allows you to work in New Zealand.

Our application form will ask about your current visa status and, if you’re on a Working Holiday Visa, when it expires so we can understand whether the role is likely to be a good fit.

Are the roles full-time or part-time?

It depends on the role.

Our Front-of-House Reception roles are typically full-time, while our Back-of-House Work-for-Accommodation roles are approximately 15 hours per week.

Check the current role information above for the most relevant details before you apply.

How do I apply for a job at Absoloot?

Easy - choose the role that suits you above and use the relevant application button to submit your details.

We’ll review your application and get in touch if we think there’s a suitable opportunity available.

Do I need previous hostel or hospitality experience?

For Front-of-House Reception - previous hospitality or customer service experience is preferred, but it isn’t essential if you’re friendly, organised and confident dealing with people.

For Back-of-House Housekeeping & Night Audit - previous experience isn’t required.  Attitude, reliability and being willing to get stuck in matter more.

How long do I need to stay?

For Front-of-House Reception - there’s no set minimum commitment, but we do prefer applicants who are planning to stay in Queenstown for a while (think 9-12 months or more).  It takes time to settle into the role, build local knowledge and become part of the team, so longer stays are always a plus.

For Back-of-House Housekeeping & Night Audit - we ask for a minimum commitment of one month, although longer stays are definitely preferred.

Can I apply even if I’m not in Queenstown yet?

Yes - you’re welcome to apply before you arrive in Queenstown.

The application will give you an opportunity to give us a clear idea of your expected arrival date and availability, so we can understand whether the timing works for the role.
