Plan your Adventure

Once you've settled in, it's time to start exploring!  Whether you're arriving from the airport, heading to the ski fields, joining a day tour or looking for local advice, a little planning can help you make the most of your time in Queenstown.  Here are a few practical tips from our team to help you get around with confidence.

✈️ Arriving in Queenstown

Getting to Absoloot is easy, whether you're flying into Queenstown, arriving by coach or driving from elsewhere in New Zealand.  Most guests arrive via Queenstown Airport, where regular public buses, shuttles, taxis and rideshare services connect the airport with the town centre.  If you're travelling by Intercity or another coach service, the main bus stop is just a short walk away.

If you're driving, you're welcome to unload near the hostel before finding parking.  As we're located right in the centre of Queenstown, we don't have on-site parking, but our FAQ page includes a map showing nearby loading zones, free parking options and paid parking areas.  You'll receive this map by email when you make a booking with us, and we provide it for free at check-in.

💡 Local Tip: If you're arriving by public bus from the airport, the Steamer Wharf/Crowne Plaza stop is one of the closest to Absoloot and makes for an easy walk along the lakefront.

🏔️ Heading to the Mountains

Queenstown is the perfect base for exploring the region's ski fields, with Coronet Peak, The Remarkables, Cardrona and Treble Cone all within easy reach.  Whether you're trying skiing for the first time or chasing fresh powder, there are transport options to suit every style of trip.

If you don't have a car, there's no need to miss out.  Dedicated ski buses start within 100m of our front door and operate throughout the winter season, making it easy to get to and from the mountains without worrying about driving, road conditions or parking.  If you do have your own vehicle, always check weather and road conditions before setting off, and carry snow chains when they're required.

💡 Local Tip: If you're hiring skis or a snowboard, we recommend collecting your gear in town the evening before.  It saves time on the mountain, gets you onto the lifts earlier, and gives you more flexibility if you decide to ski a different field the next day.  Your gear can be stored securely back at Absoloot overnight.
