Queenstowns best and most central self-service laundromat – The Washatipu Laundry

Our self-service laundromat is currently open from 9am – 9pm* daily for public use

The Washatipu Laundromat is equipped with brand new energy & water efficient 9KG front-load washers and dryers – a load in each machine is $6.  You can expect an average wash cycle to take between 30 and 45 minutes, and dryer time to take approximately 45min, depending on your load size, selected temperature and clothing thickness. No card accpeted and we do not do cash-out. 

If you are drying a large and/or heavy load, please consider adding an extra dollar or $2 during your cycle to increase the time accordingly. The cost of $6 is to start the dryer and have 45 minutes of dry time – we do not guarantee that your clothes will be dry after 45 minutes as this depends on many variables – Load amount, clothing type or thickness, dryer temperature selected. 

The larger 18KG commercial machines are also available for use, however please be aware that they are more expensive – $12 for a wash cycle and $2 per 12min for drying.  The commercial machines are only available once we have completed our laundry requirements for the day; we recommend between 4pm and 9pm as the best time to utilise these machines if you need.  Please check with reception in Absoloot Hostel QT before using.

Laundry powder is available for $2 in the coin operated machine near the entry door – this will give you 3 washes, so please don’t put it in all at once!

Whilst we can’t provide cash-out at reception, we can swap notes for coins for you – there are 3 ATM’s within 50m of our location, which we can show you if you need.

* Please be aware that due to our own needs within the day-to-day operation of the hostel, we may have to shutdown access between the hours of 10am and 2pm during the busier times of the year.  We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause, but we would recommend to come in either before 9:30am and after 1pm to avoid any issues this might cause.
